DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:
Due
to a review of our Primary Road System records, US 34 in Lucas County should be
deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be
officially included into the Primary Road System.
US
34 begins at the Lucas‑Clarke County line approximately 4 ½ miles west of
Lucas; travels in an easterly direction to the Lucas‑Monroe County line
via the Cities of Lucas and Chariton, Iowa.
PROPOSAL/ACTION
RECOMMENDATION:
Locate
US 34 and its extensions in Lucas County, Iowa as follows:
Beginning
on the Lucas‑Clarke County line at a point near the NW Corner Section 19-T72N‑R23W,
Lucas County (NE Corner of Section 24‑T72N‑R24W, Clarke County);
thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 19, 20, 21 and
22 T72N‑R23W to a point approximately 1300 feet west of the NE Corner
Section 22 T72N‑R24W; thence in a northeasterly and easterly direction
through the south part of Sections 15 and 14‑T72N‑R23W to the west
corporation line of the City of Lucas, connecting with an unnamed street (junction
US 65).
Lucas:
Beginning at the west corporation
line connecting with an unnamed street; thence southeasterly, easterly and
northeasterly to the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.
Beginning
again on the east corporation line of the City of Lucas, connecting with an
unnamed street; thence in a northeasterly direction through Section 13-T72N‑R23W
and in an easterly and southeasterly direction through Sections 18, 17, 20, 21
and 22‑T72N‑R22W to a point approximately 900 feet east of the SW
Corner Section 22‑T72N‑R22W; thence east following substantially
the section line of Sections 27, 26, and 25‑T72N‑R22W to a point
approximately 1300 feet west of the NE Corner Section 25‑T72N‑R22W;
thence southeasterly through said Section 25 to the west corporation line of
the City of Chariton connecting with an unnamed street.
Beginning on the west corporation
line connecting with an unnamed street; thence southeasterly and easterly to
the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.
Beginning
again on the east corporation line of the City of Chariton connecting with an
unnamed street; thence easterly through Sections 29 and 28‑T72N‑R21W
to a point near the center of the SE ¼ Section 28‑T72N‑R21W; thence
in an easterly and southeasterly direction through Sections 28 and 27‑T72N‑R21W
to a point approximately 1400 feet east of the SW Corner of Section 27‑T72N‑R21W;
thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 34, 35 and 36‑T72N‑R21W
and Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36‑T72N‑R20W to the Lucas‑Monroe
County line at a point near the NE Corner of Section 36‑T72N‑R20W,
Lucas County (NW Corner of Section 31‑T72N‑R19W, Monroe County).
NOW,
THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve
the location of US 34, Lucas County, Iowa.
NOTE:
To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

on an unnamed street at the west corporation line; thence southeasterly and
curving easterly on unnamed street, crossing under Main Street (extension Iowa 14)
at a point approximately 414 feet north of the NE Corner SE ¼ SE ¼ Section 30-T72N‑R21W
and continuing easterly on said unnamed street to the east corporation line.
Beginning
again on the east corporation line of the City of Chariton connecting with an
unnamed street; thence easterly through Sections 29 and 28‑T72N‑R21W
to a point near the Center of the SE ¼ Section 28‑T72N‑R21W; thence
in an easterly and southeasterly direction through Sections 28 and 27‑T72N‑R21W
to a point approximately 1600 feet east of the SW Corner of Section 27‑T72N‑R21W;
thence east following substantially the section line to the Lucas‑Monroe
County line at a point near the SE Corner of Section 25‑T72N‑R20W,
Lucas county (SW Corner of Section 30‑T72N‑R19W, Monroe County).
NOTE:
To become effective upon the completion of pavement and opening to traffic of
relocated US 34, more specifically Lucas Project F‑63 (15).
