DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to the new alignment of US 61 in Louisa County opening on December 1st, 2017, it is recommended that the route description for US 61 in Louisa County be modified.

 

 

New description – US 61 and its extension in Louisa County described as follows:

 

Beginning on the Louisa‑Des Moines County line at a point approx­imately 1000 feet west of the SE Corner of Section 34‑T73N‑R3W, Louisa County (NE Corner of Section 3‑T72N‑R03W, Des Moines County); thence in a northerly direction through the east part of Section 34 (junction of Iowa 78), 27, 22, and 15‑T73N‑R03W to a point approximately 1500 feet north of the SE Corner of Section 15‑T73N‑R03W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 14 and 11‑T73N‑R03W to a point approximately 1750 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 11‑T73N‑R03W; thence in a northwesterly and northerly direction through Sections 10 and 3‑T73N‑R03W and Section 34‑T74N‑R3W to the south corporation line of Wapello connecting with South Baxter Street.

 

 

Wapello:

 

Beginning on South Baxter Street at the south corporation line; thence northwest on South Baxter Street to North Baxter Street; thence north on North Baxter Street to the north corporation line.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, US 61 in Louisa County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

 

US 61 begins on the Louisa‑Des Moines County line approximately 7 miles south of Wapello, Iowa and travels northerly via Wapello to the Louisa‑Muscatine County line approximately 2 miles east of Letts, Iowa.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

Locate US 61 and its extension in Louisa County as follows:

 

Beginning on the Louisa‑Des Moines County line at a point approximately 1000 feet west of the SE Corner of Section 34‑T73N‑R3W, Louisa County (NE Corner of Section 3-T72N-R3W, Des Moines County); thence in a northerly direction through the east part of Sections 34 (junction of Iowa 78), 27,22 and 15‑T73N‑R3W to a point approximately 1500 feet north of the SE Corner of Section 15‑T73N‑R3W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 14 and 11‑T73N‑R3W to a point approximately 1750 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 11‑T73N‑R3W; thence in a northwesterly and northerly direction through Sections 10 and 3‑T73N‑R3W and Section 34‑T74N‑R3W to the south corporation line of the City of Wapello connecting with an unnamed street.
