DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to construction on Iowa 70 in 1994, a small section of Iowa 70 was relocated in 1995.  At the same time the old section of Iowa 70 became Unsigned Iowa 947.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the old description of Iowa 70 in Louisa County be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System

 

New Description - Iowa 70 and its extensions in Louisa County described as follows:

 

Columbus Junction:

 

Beginning on Unnamed Street at the junction of Iowa 92; thence northwest on Unnamed Street to Iowa 947; thence north on Unnamed Street to the north corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the north corporation line of Columbus Junction connecting with Second Street; thence in a northerly direction through Sections 19, 18, 7, and 6-T75N-R4W to the Louisa-Muscatine County Line at a point approximately 500 feet west of the NE Corner of Section 6-T75N-R4W, Louisa County (SE Corner of Section 31-T76N-R4W, Muscatine County).

Columbus Junction:

 

Beginning on Colton Street at the south corporation line; thence northeast an Colton Street to Gamble Street; thence east on Gamble Street to Second Street; thence north on Second Street to Maple Street; thence east on Maple Street to Main Street; thence north on Main Street to Walnut Street; thence west on Walnut Street to Second Street; thence northerly an Second Street to the north corporation line.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 70 in Louisa County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

 

Iowa 70 begins in Columbus City, Iowa and travels northerly via Columbus City, and Columbus Junction, Iowa to the Louisa‑Muscatine County line approximately 3 miles north of Columbus Junction, Iowa.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

Locate Iowa 70 and its extensions in Louisa County as follows:

 

Columbus City:

 

Beginning on an unnamed street at Market Street; thence easterly and northerly to the north corporation line, connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the north corporation line of the City of Columbus City connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northerly direction through Section 25‑T75N‑R5W to the south corporation line of the City of Columbus Junction connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Columbus Junction:

 

Beginning on the south corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northeasterly, northerly, easterly, and northeasterly direction to the north corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the north corporation line of the City of Columbus Junction, connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northerly direction along the west side of the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railway and substantially parallel thereto through Sections 19, 18, 7, and 6‑T75N‑R4W to the Louisa­-Muscatine County line at a point approximately 500 feet west of the NE Section 6‑T75N‑R4W, Louisa County (SE Corner of Section 31‑T76N‑R4W, Muscatine County).

 

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 70 in Louisa County, Iowa.

 

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
