DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

US 218 has been relocated from the Johnson‑Washington County line north and northwest to a junction with Interstate 80 and Interstate 380 in Johnson County.  The final segment from the Indian Hills Interchange northwesterly to a junction with Interstate 380 was opened to traffic June 26, 1985, and functionally classified under the State Functional Classification System on November 25, 1986.  It then will run duplicate with Interstate 380 from the junction with Interstate 80 and Interstate 380 in Johnson County north to a junction with Interstate 380 and US 30 in Linn County.  The old alignment of US 218 in Linn County should be re-designated as Iowa 965, and to maintain continuity in the Iowa Route Numbering System Unsigned Iowa 941 from the PI of US 30 and US 218 north to 100 feet north of 50th Avenue Court in Cedar Rapids should be re-designated as a portion of Iowa 965 and its description included in the Primary Road System to reflect these changes.

Iowa 965 begins at the Linn‑Johnson County line approximately two (2) miles south of the City of Cedar Rapids and travels northerly to a junction with US 30 and US 218 in the City of Cedar Rapids.
