TITLE:  Iowa 88, Lee County

 

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Iowa 88 begins at US 61 and Iowa 2 in the City of Fort Madison, and travels generally northerly approximately eight miles to Iowa 16 in the Village of Denmark.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑88‑0 (4), between Lee County and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that portion of Iowa 88 from the north corporation line of the City of Fort Madison generally northerly to Iowa 16 in the SE ¼ SW ¼ Section 28‑T69N‑R4W to county jurisdiction on September 15, 1980. The portion of Iowa 88 in the City of Fort Madison should be re-designated Unsigned Iowa 944.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the commission approve deleting the present description of Iowa 88 in Lee County from the primary road system.

 

Remove Iowa 88 and its extension in Lee County as follows:

 

Fort Madison:

 

Beginning on an unnamed street at Avenue "H"; thence northerly to the north corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning on the north corporation line of the City of Fort Madison connecting with an unnamed street; thence northerly and northeasterly through Section 33‑T68N‑R4W to a point near the NE Corner said Section 33; thence in a northerly and northwesterly direction through Sections 28 and 21-T68N-­R4W to a point approximately one‑quarter mile west of the center said Section 21; thence in a northerly direction through the west part of Sections 21, 16, 9 and 4‑T68N‑R4W and Sections 33 and 28‑T69N‑R4W to a point in the SE ¼ SW ¼ said Section 28 in the Village of Denmark (junction Iowa 16).

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records Iowa 88 in Lee County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended that the old description of Iowa 88 in Lee County be deleted and the new description, as referred in the attached detailed description, be included in the Primary Road System effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

 

Locate Iowa 88 and its exten­sion in Lee County as follows:

 

Fort Madison:
