New Description ‑ Iowa 212 and its extension in Iowa County described as follows:

 

Beginning at a point approximately 650 feet south of the NW Corner Section 8‑T81N‑R12W (junction Iowa 21); thence curving southeasterly to a point approximately 1,100 feet south and 850 feet east of the NW Corner said Section 8; thence easterly and southeasterly through Sections 8, 9, 10, 15, 14, 23, and 24‑T81N‑R12W and Sections 19, 29 and 28‑T81N‑R11W to a point approximately ¼ mile east of the W ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T81N‑R11W; thence east following substantially the Section line of Sections 28, 27, 26, and 25‑T81N‑R11W to the west corporation line of Marengo connecting with South Street.

 

Marengo:

 

Beginning on South Street at the west corporation line; thence east on South Street to Western Avenue; thence south and southeast on Western Avenue to the south corporation line (junction US 6).

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Iowa 212 begins on the Iowa‑Benton county line approximately one‑mile east of the NW Corner of Iowa County, and travels southeasterly to US 6 in the City of Marengo.

 

The portion of Iowa 212 in Benton County running duplicate with Iowa 21 is being eliminated. To maintain continuity in the Iowa route numbering system the portion of Iowa 212 in Iowa County from the Iowa‑Benton county line south running duplicate with Iowa 21 to the junction of Iowa 21 and Iowa 212 should be eliminated.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the commission approve deleting the present description of Iowa 212 in Iowa County from the primary road system and approve including the attached new description of Iowa 212 in the primary road system.

Commencing at the Iowa‑Benton County at a point near the NW Corner Section 5-T81N‑R12W, Iowa County (SW Corner of Section 32‑T82N‑R12W, Benton County); thence south following substantially the section lines 5 and 8‑T81N-R12W to a point approximately 600 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 8‑T81N‑R12W (junction Iowa 21); thence southeasterly and easterly through Section 8-T81N-R12W to a point approximately ¼ mile south of the NW Corner of Section 9‑T81N‑R12W; thence southeasterly through Sections 9, 10, 15, 14, 23 and 24‑T81N-R12W and Sections 19, 29 and 28‑T81N‑R11W to a point approximately ¼ mile east of the W ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T81N‑R11W; thence east following substan­tially the Section lines of 28, 27, 26, and 25‑T81N‑R11W to the west corporation line of City of Marengo, connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Marengo:

 

Commencing at the west corporation line, connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly, southerly and southeasterly to the south corporation line (junction US 61) connecting with an unnamed street.

 

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 212, in Iowa County, Iowa.
