DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 90-TJ-015-45 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and the City of Elma transferred Iowa 272 to the City of Elma on May 1, 1990 and should be removed from the Primary Road System.

Transfer jurisdiction agreement number 90-TJ-014-45 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Howard County transferred Iowa 272 to the county on November 9, 1992 and should be removed from the Primary Road System.

Iowa 272 begins in Elma on Main Street just west of 4th Street and travels east, northeast, north and east to the east corporation line of Elma; thence east to the junction of US 63.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the Iowa 272 and its extension in Howard County be deleted from the Primary Road System.

Beginning on Main Street at a point 187.6 feet west of 4th Street; thence east and northeast on Main Street to Busti Avenue; thence north on Busti Avenue to Grove Street; thence east on Grove Street to the east corporation line.

Beginning on the east corporation line of Elma connecting with Grove Street; thence east through Sections 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1-T97N-R13W and Sections 6 and 5-T97N-R12W to a point approximately 52 feet east and 2,700 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 5-T97N-R12W (junction of US 63).

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 272 in Howard County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

Iowa 272 begins in Elma and travels in an easterly direction terminating at the junction of US 63 approximately 6 ½ miles east of Elma, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 272 and its extension in Howard County as follows:

Elma:

Beginning at a point 187.6 feet west of Fourth Street; thence easterly, northerly and easterly to the east corporation line, connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning on the east corporation line of the city of Elma connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly through Sections 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1‑T97N‑R13W and Sections 6 and 5‑T97N‑R12W to a point approximately 52 feet east and 2700 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 5‑T97N‑R12W (junction of US 63).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 272 in Howard County, Iowa.

NOTE: To become effective upon adoption of this resolution.
