DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑72‑1 (11)‑‑2M‑35 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Franklin County transferred the portion of Iowa 72 from the north corporation line of Dows northeasterly and easterly to the east ramps of Interstate 35 to county jurisdiction on April 1, 1986 and transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑72‑1 (10)‑‑2M‑35 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and the City of Dows transferred the portion of Iowa 72 from the Wright‑Franklin County line in Dows northerly and easterly to the northeast corner of the corporation line to city jurisdiction on November 1, 1985.

The official description of Iowa 72 in Franklin County should be deleted to reflect these transfers.

Iowa 72 begins at the Franklin‑Wright County line in the City of Dows and proceeds easterly, northerly and easterly to Interstate 35 approximately two miles northeast of the City of Dows.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended to approve deleting the description of Iowa 72 in Franklin County from the Primary Road System.

Old description ‑ Iowa 72 and its extension in Franklin County described as follows:

Dows:

Beginning on an unnamed street at the Franklin‑Wright County line; thence easterly and northerly to the north corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning again on the north corporation line of the City of Dows connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly and northeasterly through Section 30‑T91N‑R22W to a point approximately 400 feet west of the NE Corner of Said Section 30; thence easterly following substantially the section line of Sections 30, 29 and 28‑T91N‑R22W (junction Interstate 35) to the east ramps of Interstate 35 approximately 1,600 feet east of the NW Corner Section 28‑T91N‑R22W.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑72‑1 (5)‑‑2M‑99 between the City of Dows and the Iowa Department of Transportation and transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑72‑0 (6)‑‑2M‑35 between Franklin County and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred the section of road from Ellsworth Street in the City of Dows on the Franklin‑Wright County line east, north and east to the east ramps of Interstate 35 approximately 1600 feet east of the NW Corner Section 28‑T91N‑R22W to state jurisdiction on July 1, 1980. The section is now designated Iowa 72.

Iowa 72 begins at the Franklin‑Wright County line in the City of Dows and proceeds easterly, northerly and easterly to Interstate 35 approximately two miles northeast of the City of Dows.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the commission approve including the attached description of Iowa 72 in Franklin County in the primary road system.
