DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to the relocation of a portion of Iowa 3 in Oelwein on December 1986, the official description of this route should be revised to reflect the new alignment.

The portion of Iowa 3, which was relocated, extends from 2nd Street NW and Frederick Avenue southeasterly to Charles Street in Oelwein where it rejoins the existing route of Iowa 3.

The remainder of the route remains unchanged.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the old description of Iowa 3 be deleted and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

New Description - Iowa 3 and its extensions in Fayette County described as follows:

Beginning on the Fayette-Bremer County Line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 7-T91N-R10W, Fayette County (NE Corner of Section 12-T91N-R11W, Bremer County); thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12-T91N-R10W and Sections 7, 8, and 9-T91N-R9W to a point near the N ¼ Corner of Section 9-T91N-R9W (north junction Iowa 150); thence south following substantially the center section line of Sections 9 and 16-T91N-R9W to the north corporation line of Oelwein connecting with North Frederick Avenue.

Oelwein:

Beginning on North Frederick Ave at the north corporation line; thence south on North Frederick Ave to 2nd St NW; thence southeasterly to 1st Ave NE; thence south on 1st Ave NE to Charles St; thence east on Charles Street to the east corporation line.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 3 in Fayette County, Iowa should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

Iowa 3 begins at the Fayette‑Bremer County line approximately 10 miles northwest of Oelwein and travels in an easterly direction via the City of Oelwein to the Fayette‑Clayton County line approximately 14 miles east of Oelwein, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 3 and its extension in Fayette County as follows:

Beginning on the Fayette‑Bremer County line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 7‑T91N‑R10W, Fayette County (NE Corner of Section 12‑T91N‑R11W; Bremer County); thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12‑T91N‑R10W and Sections 7, 8, add 9‑T91N‑R9W to a point near the N ¼ Corner of Section 9‑T91N‑R9W (north junction Iowa 150); thence south following substantially the center section line of Sections 9 and 16‑T91N‑R9W to the north corporation line of the City of Oelwein connecting with an unnamed street.
