DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Iowa 9 begins at the Dickinson‑Osceola County Line approximately 4 miles southwest of Lake Park, Iowa and travels in an easterly direction via Spirit Lake and Superior, Iowa to the Dickinson‑Emmet County Line approximately 1½ miles southeast of Superior, Iowa.

 

A portion of Iowa 9 was annexed into the City of Spirit Lake on November 13, 1984.  To reflect this annexation and to provide a more detailed description of the extension of Iowa 9 in Spirit Lake and Superior the official description of Iowa 9 in Dickinson County should be revised and the new description officially included in the primary road system.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to approve revising the description of Iowa 9 in Dickinson County and including the new description in the primary road system.

 

New Description: Iowa 9 and its extensions in Dickinson County described as follows:

 

Beginning at the Dickinson‑Osceola County Line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 6‑T99N‑R38W, Dickinson County (NE Corner of Section 1‑T99N‑R39W, Osceola County); thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1‑T99N‑R38W and Sections 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1‑T99N‑R37W to a point approximately 900 feet east of the N ¼ Corner of Section 1‑T99N‑R37W; thence in a southeasterly and easterly direction through Section 1‑T99N‑R37W, Sections 6 and 5 T99N‑R36W to the west corporation line of the City of Spirit Lake, connecting with 18th Street.

 

Spirit Lake:

 

Beginning on 18th Street at the west corporation line; thence easterly on 18th Street to an intersection of Denver Avenue and an unnamed street; thence northeasterly and easterly on an unnamed street to the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the City of Spirit Lake connecting with an unnamed street (near the N ¼ Corner of Section 3‑T99N‑R36W); thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 3, 2 and 1‑T99N‑R36W and Sections 6, 5 (east junction US 71), 4 and 3‑T99N‑R35W to the west corporation line of the City of Superior connecting with 1st Avenue

 

Superior:

 

Commencing at the west corporation line connecting with 1st Avenue; thence easterly on 1st Avenue to the East Corporation Line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the City of Superior, connecting with 1st Avenue; thence east following substantially the section line of Section 2‑T99N‑R35W to a point near the NE Corner of Section 2‑T99N‑R35W; thence in a southeasterly direction through Section 1‑T99N‑R35W to the Dickinson‑Emmet County Line at a point approximately 300 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 1‑T99N‑R35W, Dickinson County (W ¼ Corner of Section 6‑T99N‑R34W, Emmet County).
