Beginning on the Clay‑O'Brien County line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 31‑T97N‑R38W Clay County (NE Corner Section 36-T97N‑R39W, O'Brien County); thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36‑T97N‑R38W, and Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36‑T97N‑R37W to the west corporation line of Spencer connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Spencer:

 

Beginning on an unnamed street at the west corporation line; thence east on said unnamed street to an unnamed street (north junction US 71); thence southerly and southeasterly on an unnamed street to Grand Avenue; thence southeasterly on Grand Avenue to an unnamed street (south junction US 71); thence easterly on an unnamed street to the east corporation line.

Due to the review of our Primary Road System records, US 18 in Clay County should be deleted from the Primary System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

 

US 18 begins at the Clay‑O'Brien County line approximately 4 miles northwest of Everly, Iowa and travels easterly, southerly, and easterly via Spencer, Iowa to the Clay‑Palo Alto County line approximately 5 miles east of Dickens, Iowa.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

Locate US 18 and its extension in Clay County as follows:

 

Beginning on the Clay‑O'Brien County line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 31‑T97N‑R38W; thence east following sub­stantially the section line of Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36‑T97N‑R38W, and Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36‑T97N‑R37W and Section 31-T97N-R36W (north junction US 71) to the north corporation line of the City of Spencer connecting with an unnamed street  (NOTE: The maps suggest a municipal extension in Section 36, although the listing doesn't as of 1982.)

 

Spencer:

 

Beginning on the north corporation line connecting unnamed street; thence in a southerly and easterly direction to the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the city of Spencer connecting with an unnamed street thence in an easterly direction through the north part of Sections 20 and 21‑T96N‑R26W to a point approximately 1,000 feet east of the NW Corner Section 21‑T96N‑R36W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 21, 22, 23, 24‑T96N‑R36W and Sections 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24‑T96N‑R35W to the Clay‑Palo Alto County line at a point near the NE Corner of Section 24‑T95N‑R35W, Clay County (NW Corner of Section 19‑T96N‑R34W, Palo Alto County).

 

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transpor­tation approve the location of US 18 in Clay County, Iowa.
