Senate File 451 transferred Unsigned Iowa 940 in its entirety, in Benton County, to county jurisdiction on July 1, 2003.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑212‑0 (9), between Tama County and the Iowa Department of Transportation and an automatic transfer to the City of Chelsea, transferred Iowa 212 in Tama County to county and city jurisdiction.  To maintain continuity in the Iowa route numbering system the portion of Iowa 212 in Benton County from the Benton‑Tama County line to the junction with Iowa 21 should be re-designated as Unsigned Iowa 940 and the portion of Iowa 212 from the junction of Iowa 21 running duplicate with Iowa 21 to the Iowa County line should be eliminated.

 

Unsigned Iowa 940 begins on the Benton‑Tama County line approximately ½ mile north of the City of Belle Plaine, and travels easterly approximately 400 feet to Iowa 21.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the commission approve including the attached description of Unsigned Iowa 940 in Benton County in the primary road system.

 

Locate Unsigned Iowa 940 in Benton County as follows:

 

Beginning on the Benton‑Tama County line at a point near the NW Corner Section 19‑T82N‑R12W, Benton County (NE Corner Section 24‑T82N‑R13W, Tama County); thence easterly and northeasterly through Sections 19 and 18‑T82N‑R12W to a point approximately 450 feet east and 100 feet north of the SW Corner Section 18‑T82N‑R12W (junction Iowa 21).
