DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

To provide a major route between Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Interstate 80, Iowa 149 in Benton County should be re‑designated as US 151 and its description deleted from the Primary Road System to reflect this re‑designation.

 

Iowa 149 begins at the Benton‑Iowa County Line approximately six miles southeast of Norway and travels northerly and easterly via Walford to the Benton‑Linn County Line at Walford.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to approve deleting the description of Iowa 149 in Benton County from the Primary Road System.

 

Old Description ‑ Iowa 149 and its extension in Benton County described as follows:

 

Beginning on the Benton‑Iowa County Line at a point near the SW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W, Benton County (NW Corner of Section 2‑T81N‑R9W, Iowa County); thence north following substantially the section line said Section 35 to a point approximately 1200 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W; thence curving in northeasterly direction to a point approximately 1200 feet east of the NW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 35 and 36‑T82N‑R9W to a point approximately 600 feet east of the N ¼ Corner of Section 36‑T82N‑R9W; thence in a northeasterly direction along the north side of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad and substantially parallel thereto through Section 25‑T82N‑R9W to the west corporation line of the City of Walford connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Walford:

 

Beginning on the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence northeasterly on unnamed street to the Benton‑Linn County Line.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records Iowa 149 in Benton County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

Beginning on the Benton‑Iowa County line at a point near the SW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W, Benton County (NW Corner of Section 2‑T81N‑R9W, Iowa County); thence north following substantially the section line said Section 35 to a point approx­imately 1200 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W; thence curving in northeasterly direction to a point approximately 1200 feet east of the NW Corner of Section 35‑T82N‑R9W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 35 and 36‑T82N‑R9W to a point approximately 600 feet east of the N ¼ Corner of Section 36‑T82N‑R9W; thence in a northeasterly direction through Section 25-T82N-R9W to the west corporation line of the City of Walford connecting with an unnamed street.

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 149 in Benton County, Iowa.

 

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
