REP. LOEBSACK TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL TRAIN DAY AT AMTRAK
STOPS IN THE SECOND DISTRICT
Loebsack to Visit Mt. Pleasant, Burlington, and Ft. Madison with IDOT Director and Amtrak Official

Cedar Rapids, IA –
In celebration of National Train Day 2008, Congressman Dave Loebsack will visit Amtrak stations in Mt. Pleasant, Burlington, and Ft. Madison to renew a community commitment to rail service in Iowa. At the events, the Congressman will host a discussion with Amtrak Board Member, Tom Carper, IDOT Director, Nancy Richardson, Members of the Iowa Association of Rail Passengers, and local leaders on the benefits of passenger and freight rail service in Iowa for residents, businesses, and local economies. May 10th, 2008, National Train Day, will serve as a coast-to-coast celebration of the way trains connect people and places.

Congressman Loebsack has supported numerous legislative measures to invest in greater rail safety and track improvements. Last year, the Congressman voted in support of a $31 million Amtrak funding increase. Iowa’s Second Congressional District is home to four of the state’s 6 Amtrak stops, these stations connect Iowa to Chicago going eastbound and Iowa to Oakland, California and Los Angeles, CA going westbound.
