About the Conference

On June 4th-6th, 2008, Johnson County Council of Governments (JCCOG) and Iowa Department of Transportation will host the 2008 Midwest Transportation Planning Conference, in Iowa City, Iowa, drawing planners, civil engineers, and agency representatives from the Midwest and Washington, D.C.

This will be the eighth Midwest Transportation Planning Conference in 12 years and the first time JCCOG and the City of Iowa City host the conference. Previous hosts have included Omaha, Des Moines, Quad Cities, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Indianapolis.

The conference will bring together transportation planning professionals from across the Midwest to examine important transportation issues from a Midwest perspective. Topics to be examined this year include the latest trends in Midwestern transportation planning practice and upcoming federal transportation legislation.

Many of the conference sessions will fulfill continuing education requirements for American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

The conference will also offer mobile workshops for attendees to highlight significant transportation-related activities and projects in the Iowa City/Coralville area. Workshops may include touring examples of traffic calming measures in Iowa City, bike and pedestrian facilities, the New Urbanist-style Peninsula Development, roundabouts, multi-modal projects, and the City of Coralville’s Iowa River Landing Development.
